No Matter How Slow, Keep Moving Forward

I have a little confession to make - most days, I find it really exhausting to bring myself in front of my computer and start writing something. For example, today, I'm supposed to share new content on my blog because I've made a commitment that I would do so every Thursday, however, soon as I got home, I procrastinated so much and I lost so much time in the end. While I had a schedule in place and what to write, I felt following it didn't really connect with my state today.
So I rummaged through the gallery on my computer and laughed at the memes I've collected over the years. I also browsed on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter trying to convince myself that I would find inspiration from there. I didn't.
Then, as I was about to call it a night and close my empty notepad, I ever so suddenly came across this photo with this quote that says: "Never discourage anyone who continually makes progress, no matter how slow." It made me think and just like that, I began typing these words that you are currently reading.
It made me realize that sometimes, the greatest discourager in our lives is ourselves. There are many times whereby the voice inside us is really loud and it's even shouting: "You're not good enough!". Then, when we hear it, we get totally convinced and believe it for so long. Jay Shetty shared in his video this striking statement: "When someone compliments us, we believe it for a moment. When someone calls us ugly, we believe it for almost a lifetime." Think about it for a moment, who is that one person that often call out to us saying: "Don't do it, you'll only fail!", or "I'm not sure, better be safe and not try!", or "You're just like that, you can never be great!". Pause and think. Whose voice do you hear? I don't know about you, but I hear my own voice saying these statements back at me and it does not feel good at all.
So, as I look back at the quote: "Never discourage anyone who continually makes progress, no matter how slow.", I took a deep breath and gently gave myself a tap at the back for being able to write something on this blog despite all the distractions and procrastination that almost overwhelmed me. It is a big reminder that we must always strive to acknowledge ourselves for every small progress we make, no matter how slow, or simple, or little it is - because it is better to move an inch forward than to sulk and play the negative stories in our head that makes us feel stuck.
Cheers to us both and to the progress we have made and we will make in the future.
You have my support.
Cheers,
Mary Jedde
Baby steps still move you forward and take you a long way overtime ❤❤❤
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! Thanks for reading Dave!
DeleteStubborn as we are, we always deny the fact that we our slowing ourselves down and blame it on other factors when supposedly we, ourselves should take the blame. Lol. Well, not 'we', I think that's only me. Hahahaha. I really need to change this attitude, but on a brighter note, I always reward myself of the little progress that I make (i reward myself too much though lol) Hehehe. Cheers to a new year, Jedde! Please keep on writing. Haha❤️
ReplyDeleteTrue! Sometimes we need to acknowledge and reward ourselves for the progress that we have made. Thank you Lui for the encouragement!
