January Notes - Blog by Jedde

The longest month of all seems to be January. In the past, I would often feel sluggish, quiet, and sometimes dreary when the first month of the year arrives. It may just be me, but it's like a recuperating period from the huge festivities of the previous months.

But it's not at all bad. In fact, I find it useful that I feel this way because now I'll have the time to reflect and choose the direction I want to head to moving forward. It gives me an opportunity to spend time with my thoughts and become comfortable with my own company without the heavy feeling of needing to accomplish anything grand.

Speaking of direction, I've come up with what I want to focus on for this month. These are simple tasks that need to be done or habits that I've started to build consistently. Today, I'm going to let you in on some of the tasks I have in mind.

1. Complete 20 Pilates sessions.

I started taking Pilates classes in 2018 and it helped me improve my posture and strengthen my core. You probably do not know, but I never liked exercising and so it came as a huge surprise to me that I fell in love with Pilates. So, this month, I will persevere to complete at least 20 Pilates sessions with 45-minute to 1-hour duration.

2. Write 4 blog posts.

Usually, I write on my blog days before Thursday. Sometimes, I also write it on the spot. What I would like to try this time is to plan ahead which topics I'd like to write about so that I don't rush it. My aim is to write four blog posts for this month.

3. Film and upload 2 Youtube videos.

I want to push myself a little outside my comfort zone this year by creating video content and uploading it on my Youtube channel. Previously, I would just open my computer camera and share quick tips despite not preparing for it, and also looking candid.

What I would like to try next is ensuring better quality output and see what new learning and insights I can gain from this experience. To be honest, I'm not really into putting video contents online, but I also believe there is no harm in trying new things and pushing ourselves to greater heights.

If you can, feel free to visit me on my Youtube channel and subscribe here.

4. Read 3 books.

I've 30 books as my reading goal for this year. Judging from the time I have on my hands, I think I can read 3 books this month. I'm already on my second book so I am certain this should be achievable. Have you decided to read any books this year? Don't fret, even a short book shall suffice if you really cannot find the time.

5. Buy 0 clothes.

Last year, I never bought any new clothes for seven months straight. I'll start by buying zero new items of clothing for the month of January and see how it goes.

These are some of my notes for January. I love writing them down and I find it fun to try new things. Although some of these may not fall into my category of comfort, I believe it is important to lean into my discomfort. That should allow me to grow and learn new things.

I am excited.

Thank you for reading!

Love,
Mary Jedde
