Living Without Rushing and Other Adulting Talks at Tavolata - Design Center of Cebu

Image
It's always making plans happen one after the other for me. The cycle doesn't end because I'm so used to rushing life. It's as though I can't bear it when I stay still; and while it can be productive, it also made me forget that slowing down doesn't necessarily equate to having a worthless life. On the contrary, living without rushing provides a certain kind of bliss that soothes the soul - if only you allow it. On a cold Saturday evening, I met with a friend of mine, Jana, over a sumptuous dinner at Tavoloata. With its sheer elegance calling out from outside, Tavolata surely caught our attention when we were deciding where to spend time catching up.  Inside, we were greeted with warm and bronze tones and a sophisticated ambiance, perfectly achieving a delicate balance between industrial and fine-dining. The lights suspended from the ceiling add a romantic touch to the place, perfect for an intimate gathering of friends and family, or with one's significant ...

The View from Above - Thoughts on Dreaming Big, Fear of Heights, and Moving Forward

Image
Someone once told me that it's not really the height of the building that's scary but rather the sensation of falling that makes someone shudder at being in high-rise places. And it made me think. Perhaps the real fear of people isn't in the idea of dreaming big but in the idea of failing on the way to reaching those dreams, or worse, becoming a failure themselves before they even start. The grandiosity of the fact that dreams do come true is like a double-edged sword. It can be so inspiring that it sparks action, but it can also be so terrifying that it stops someone in their tracks. Dreaming big in a post-pandemic world doesn't make it easier too. Without one's knowledge, anything can happen and with a snap of a finger, everything can just disappear and completely change. Sometimes, it can be a little too dumbfounding and quite disheartening.  I've always been scared of heights. My legs would shake, my heart would beat so fast as though it wants to escape from...

January Notes - Blog by Jedde

Image
Pexels The longest month of all seems to be January. In the past, I would often feel sluggish, quiet, and sometimes dreary when the first month of the year arrives. It may just be me, but it's like a recuperating period from the huge festivities of the previous months.  But it's not at all bad. In fact, I find it useful that I feel this way because now I'll have the time to reflect and choose the direction I want to head to moving forward. It gives me an opportunity to spend time with my thoughts and become comfortable with my own company without the heavy feeling of needing to accomplish anything grand. Speaking of direction, I've come up with what I want to focus on for this month. These are simple tasks that need to be done or habits that I've started to build consistently. Today, I'm going to let you in on some of the tasks I have in mind.  1. Complete 20 Pilates sessions. I started taking Pilates classes in 2018 and it helped me improve my posture and stren...

"It blinds me sometimes, but I love you for it."

"Your light is so bright it blinds people. It blinds me sometimes, but I love you for it. I'm so damn proud of you I could burst. That light will attract people to you, and it will burn the bad ones and hurt their eyes, and they're going to try and hurt you for it. You need to watch out for them, learn to recognize them, and stay away from them."* We have many fears. Heights, ghosts, failing - these are some of the things that we're afraid of. But there's one other thing that makes us want to hide and cower, something that makes us want to lock ourselves in the darkness, and something that makes us want to admit defeat. This one other thing that we're afraid of - is our own light.  There are moments when we feel like we're shining so bright. We can feel it physically. Usually, it is the adrenaline that covers us from head to toe. It makes us want to take a big leap of faith. It makes us want to try new things without any hint of hesitation, and it ma...

A Jewelry Brand that Empowers from SOAMI (Singapore)

I wore a special necklace today.  What makes this necklace special to me is that one of my most beloved people in Singapore, Jasline, gave this as a memento of our friendship. I vividly remember the day when she handed me this thoughtful present. It was a drizzly Saturday night and we were enjoying our conversation from a trip to Sentosa in Singapore.  When the fun had settled, she came up to me with a box and a letter. Curious, I asked her what it was. She told me to open the box first and what I saw inside brought a smile to my face. It was a beautiful, minimalist necklace with the letter "J" inscribed on a tiny circular silver indicating my name "Jedde"   and a phrase engraved on a minute silver column that says:  "This too will pass." This phrase means so much to both of us because we have gone through countless turbulent moments in our lives. It is a reminder that nothing is permanent in this world, including our emotions, feelings, our difficult situ...
