Scribbles and Books: Orphans of the Tide by Struan Murray
Goodreads Summary
"The City was built on a sharp mountain that jutted improbably from the sea, and the sea kept trying to claim it back. That grey morning, once the tide had retreated, a whale was found on a rooftop. When a mysterious boy washes in with the tide, the citizens believe he's the Enemy - the god who drowned the world - come again to cause untold chaos.Only Ellie, a fearless young inventor living in a workshop crammed with curiosities, believes he's innocent. But the Enemy can take possession of any human body and the ruthless Inquisition are determined to destroy it forever.
To save the boy, Ellie must prove who he really is - even if that means revealing her own dangerous secret."
My Thoughts
It was a cold February afternoon when I decided to head out and visit a bookshop. While I was enjoying my browsing, mindfully checking the books on each aisle, I noticed a particular title that piqued my interest. Tucked among dozens of books in a corner, I bent down to pick it up and decided to buy the book.
I started reading it immediately as I arrived home. To my surprise, I couldn't put it down. The story is so unique and intriguing - as well as engaging - that I had to know what's next. The Orphans of the Tide is a story that's rich in friendship, mystery, and adventures. In every page, there are exciting revelations and the author vividly depicts each scene that makes me wonder about a world that's beyond ours. The pace of the story leaves enough room for my imagination to chart its course.
Each character in the story played an important role in building a plot. It made me guess who both the enemy and the vessel are. One remarkable trait about this book is that you get to read a diary from one of the characters and it leaves clue for you to try to solve. As the story progresses, you will be hooked. There is an element of edge-of-your-seat surprises too.
When I reached the reading, it made me want to know more, but perhaps, it's something that the author leaves me with to imagine and figure out on my own. I finished reading this book in one sitting. This is to me, one of the best reads for 2020 for Young Adult genre so far. I'm glad I went out to explore the bookstore that day. The Orphans of the Tide for me was a lovely serendipity.
If you want to read something related to adventure - this is an easy, delightful read. Highly recommended. This book gets a 5/5 stars from me.
